The Husband came inside the other day complaining: “There are dandelions all over the pasture!” To which I answered: “Oh, that reminds me, I must go pick some later.” The look on his face told me he thought I had gone bonkers. Dandelions are known as weeds and tend to have a bad reputation, but actually they are actually great flowers!
It is finally starting to look a little like spring around here! We had some horrible weather last week with lots of rain and strong winds. But today, though it was cloudy, it was dry an 15 degrees celcius. A perfect day for some garden chores!
As you know, we moved here last October, and when we did fall was just setting in. The garden had been neglected last year, so it was overgrown with weeds. We removed most of it during the fall and winter, but had now idea what plants were actually growing in the garden. So, now as spring is coming, all sorts of stuff is popping up.
For years I have had this dream, instead of going to the grocery store to buy my food, I wanted to just walk outside and pick it for myself. But why would I want to do that? Growing your own food is a lot of backbreaking work! Wouldn’t it be much easier to just buy our food? Well, yes probably, so I am going to give you our reasons for wanting to grow our own food.
